Yury Petrovich Vlasov was a renowned Soviet and Russian heavyweight weightlifter. He excelled in the sport, earning gold and silver Olympic medals and numerous world titles. Vlasov set multiple world records before retiring from weightlifting. He then pursued a successful career as a writer and politician. Vlasov served in the Congress of People’s Deputies of the Soviet Union and later in the Russian State Duma. He even ran for the Russian presidency in 1996.
