Yossef Romano, an Italian-born Israeli weightlifter, participated in the middleweight division at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich. He held the title of Israeli weight-lifting champion in the light and middle-weight categories for nine consecutive years. Romano was an interior decorator by trade and had also served in the 1967 Six-Day War. Sadly, he was among the eleven Israeli team members who lost their lives in the Munich massacre carried out by Palestinian members of Black September during the Olympics.
