Władysław Szpilman was a well-known Polish Jewish pianist, classical composer, and Holocaust survivor. He studied piano in Berlin and Warsaw, establishing himself as a popular performer on Polish Radio and in concert. During the German occupation of Poland, he was confined to the Warsaw Ghetto and spent two years in hiding. After the war, he resumed his career on Polish Radio and gained acclaim for his extensive body of work, which included numerous songs and orchestral pieces. Szpilman was also recognized as a prominent symbol of survival in the aftermath of destruction.
