Witold Pilecki was a prominent Polish military officer, intelligence operative, and leader of the resistance during World War II. He played a key role in the Polish underground movement and served in the Polish Army, including in the Polish–Soviet War. Pilecki was instrumental in establishing the Secret Polish Army resistance movement during the war. He bravely volunteered to enter the Auschwitz concentration camp, where he organized resistance efforts and meticulously documented the atrocities committed by the Germans. Following his escape from Auschwitz, Pilecki participated in the Warsaw Uprising before being captured and held in a German prisoner-of-war camp.
