Willie Simms was a highly accomplished American National Champion jockey renowned for his success in the short-stirrup style in Thoroughbred racing. He achieved multiple victories in races that later became part of the U.S. Triple Crown series, including consecutive wins at the Belmont Stakes. Simms also made history by becoming the first American jockey to win with an American horse in England. He holds the distinction of being the only African American jockey to triumph in all three Triple Crown races and was honored with induction into the U.S. Racing Hall of Fame for his remarkable career, which included 1,125 wins.
