Vladimir the Great ruled as Prince of Novgorod starting in 970 and later became Grand Prince of Kiev until his passing in 1015. He expanded his territory to the Baltic Sea, defended borders from threats, and introduced Christianity to the Kievan Rus. After starting with Slavic paganism, he adopted Christianity in 988, removing his brother Yaropolk to ensure his authority. With a Varangian army, he accomplished his objectives, ushering in a period of Christianization and centralized governance.
