Thelma Elizabeth Hopkins was a Northern Irish athlete known for her accomplishments in high jump and long jump. She set a world high jump record in 1956, which was later broken by another athlete. She represented Great Britain in the 1956 Summer Olympics and won a silver medal. Hopkins also won a gold medal for Northern Ireland in the 1954 Commonwealth Games. Besides athletics, she was a skilled field hockey and squash player, representing Ireland internationally. She was also an advocate for racial equality in sports.
