Svante Pääbo is a renowned geneticist specializing in evolutionary genetics and paleogenetics. He is credited with decoding the Neanderthal genome and is a founding director of the Department of Genetics at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Leipzig, Germany. Pääbo holds an honorary professorship at Leipzig University, where he teaches molecular evolutionary biology, and serves as an adjunct professor at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology in Japan.
