Stephen Breyer, an American lawyer and jurist, served as an associate justice of the U.S. Supreme Court from 1994 until his retirement in 2022. Nominated by President Bill Clinton, he was associated with the liberal wing of the Court. Prior to his Supreme Court tenure, Breyer held positions as a law professor at Harvard Law School and as a federal judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit.
