Soong Ching-ling was a prominent Chinese political figure who held high positions in the government of the People’s Republic of China. She served as Vice Chairman of the PRC and the Standing Committee of the National People’s Congress. Representing China at international events in the early 1950s, she faced criticism during the Cultural Revolution but later became the de facto Head of State of China. Soong continued to play significant roles in government until her final illness in 1981.
