Mimar Sinan, also known as Koca Mi’mâr Sinân Âğâ, was the chief Ottoman architect, engineer, and mathematician who rose through the ranks to become the chief royal architect. His masterpieces include the Selimiye Mosque in Edirne and the Suleiman Mosque in Istanbul. Sinan trained many successful assistants and left a lasting legacy in Ottoman architecture.
