Sherman Mills Fairchild was a successful American businessman and investor who founded several prosperous companies, such as Fairchild Aviation, Fairchild Industries, and Fairchild Camera and Instrument. Fairchild’s Semiconductor Division was instrumental in shaping Silicon Valley, and he held more than 30 patents for revolutionary products. His innovative work included inventing the synchronized camera shutter and flash, and developing technologies for aerial cameras used in the Apollo Missions.
