Sam Cooke, also known as the “King of Soul,” was a highly influential American singer and songwriter. He made significant contributions to the genre with his unique vocals. Cooke had a successful career spanning eight years, during which he released 29 singles that made it to the Top 40 of the Billboard Pop Singles chart and 20 singles in the Top Ten of Billboard’s Black Singles chart. Sadly, in 1964, he was fatally shot in Los Angeles under controversial circumstances. Despite this tragedy, Cooke’s legacy endures, and he is regarded as one of the greatest R&B artists of all time.
