Phantly Roy Bean Jr. was an American saloon-keeper and Justice of the Peace in Val Verde County, Texas. He famously referred to himself as “The Only Law West of the Pecos” and presided over his court in his saloon located along the Rio Grande in the Chihuahuan Desert of southwest Texas. Despite being depicted as a hanging judge in fictional Western tales, Bean only sentenced two men to hang, with one evading the punishment. His distinctive approach to administering justice in the Wild West has had a lasting impact on American folklore.
