Eugène Adrien Roland Georges Garros, a French aviation pioneer and fighter pilot, made significant contributions to aviation history. He achieved notable milestones, including the first airplane crossing of the Mediterranean Sea in 1913. During World War I, Garros served in the French army and became one of the earliest fighter pilots. Unfortunately, he was shot down and passed away in 1918. To honor his legacy, the Roland Garros tennis stadium was named in 1928, hosting the annual French Open tennis tournament.
