Robert Tappan Morris is an American computer scientist and entrepreneur who gained notoriety for developing the first computer worm on the Internet in 1988. He faced legal action for releasing the worm under the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act. Morris later co-founded Viaweb, an online store, and the venture capital firm Y Combinator alongside Paul Graham. He subsequently became a faculty member at MIT, achieving tenure and earning election to the National Academy of Engineering in 2019.
