Robert Lee “Hoot” Gibson is a former American naval officer, aviator, test pilot, and aeronautical engineer. He served as Chief of the Astronaut Office at NASA from 1992 to 1994. Gibson is a retired astronaut who is actively involved as a professional pilot and participates in the annual Reno Air Races. He has been inducted into the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame in 2003 and the National Aviation Hall of Fame in 2013 in recognition of his contributions to aviation. Throughout his career, Gibson has received numerous military decorations for his achievements.
