Robert Emmiyan, a retired long jumper from Armenia, had a successful career representing both the USSR and Armenia. He is renowned as the fourth best long jumper in history, with a personal best jump of 8.86 metres achieved in 1987, which remains the current European record. In recognition of his athletic accomplishments, Emmiyan was awarded the Honoured Master of Sports of the USSR in 1987. Since 2001, an annual track and field meeting called the Emmiyan Cup has been held in Artashat, Armenia, in his honor.
