Holbrooke played a key role in brokering the peace agreement in Bosnia, known as the Dayton Peace Accords. He was a top foreign policy adviser in presidential campaigns and worked extensively on issues related to Pakistan, Afghanistan, and refugee populations. His ambition was to become Secretary of State.
