Red Byron was a highly successful American stock car racing driver known for his accomplishments in NASCAR during its early days. He made history as NASCAR’s first Modified champion in 1948 and its first Strictly Stock champion in 1949. Byron was considered one of the top drivers of his era, alongside Bob Flock. He achieved notable victories, such as winning the first NASCAR race at Daytona Beach and Road Course and claiming the inaugural NASCAR Strictly Stock driver’s championship.
