Raúl Sendic Antonaccio was a Uruguayan lawyer and trade unionist known for founding the National Liberation Movement – Tupamaros (MLN-T). Initially focused on organizing agricultural workers and advocating for land reform, he later led the MLN-T in urban guerrilla warfare against the Uruguayan state. After being arrested during the civic-military dictatorship, he was imprisoned but released following the country’s transition to democracy. As the Tupamaros turned to legal and political activities, Sendic’s career was unfortunately cut short by amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).
