Eric Randolph Barnes, an American former shot putter, held the outdoor world record for the event from 1990 to 2021. He won silver at the 1988 Olympics and gold at the 1996 Olympics. Barnes started his shot-putting career in high school and continued to excel at Texas A&M University. Despite doping allegations, he achieved great success in shot put. After retiring from athletics, Barnes competed in long driving, qualifying for the 2005 World Long Drive Championship.
