Ramón Fonst Segundo was a Cuban fencer who made history as the first Cuban and Latin American Olympic medalist, winning gold in the Men’s épée event at the 1900 Summer Olympics in Paris. He continued his success by winning multiple gold medals at subsequent Olympics and Central American and Caribbean Games. Fonst later held leadership roles in Cuban sports organizations, including serving as president of the National Olympic Committee and as an adviser for the Department of Physical Education and Sports until his passing in 1959.
