Personal Life
Raina Telgemeier was born on May 26, 1977 in San Francisco, California. She has a younger brother named Will as well as a sister named Amara. During her pre-teen years, Telgemeier suffered a serious mouth injury due to which she had to undergo several years of dental and orthodontic surgeries. Due to her injury, she was viciously teased by some of her friends and this made her seek solace in drawing. She eventually found some good friends in high school who appreciated her talent, thereby increasing her confidence. And with that encouragement, Telgemeier studied illustration at School of Visual Arts, New York. Currently, the American cartoonist is living with her husband, Dave Roman, in California.
