Prince William, Duke of Cumberland, was a prominent military leader renowned for his involvement in suppressing the Jacobite Rising at the Battle of Culloden. He led the primary allied field army in Flanders during the War of the Austrian Succession, engaging in battles against the French Marshal Maurice de Saxe. Despite his endeavors, he was unable to halt the capture of the Dutch Barrier Forts. Following unsuccessful army reforms, he transitioned his interests to politics and horse racing after the Convention of Klosterzeven in 1757.
