Pitirim Sorokin was a Russian American sociologist who made significant contributions to social cycle theory. He began his academic career as a professor at Saint Petersburg Imperial University but later moved to Czechoslovakia to avoid persecution during Lenin’s regime. Sorokin went on to become a professor of sociology at the University of Minnesota and eventually led the sociology department at Harvard University. Throughout his life, he faced numerous arrests by both the Czarist and communist authorities due to his involvement with the Socialist Revolutionary Party in Russia.
