Pentti Airikkala, a well-known member of the “Flying Finns” in the world of rallying, enjoyed a successful career that spanned four decades. He participated sporadically but effectively in World Rally Championship (WRC) events, achieving a significant victory at the 1989 RAC Rally while driving a Group A Mitsubishi Galant VR-4. Throughout his career, Airikkala competed in 36 WRC events, earning a total of 102 points and achieving his best overall finish of 9th place in the 1981 Drivers’ Championship. After retiring from racing, he established a prestigious rally driving school in Oxfordshire, where he mentored future champions such as Colin McRae and Richard Burns.
