Influenced by existentialist literature, Highsmith’s writing explored themes of identity and morality. Graham Greene dubbed her “the poet of apprehension,” and she produced notable works such as Strangers on a Train and The Talented Mr. Ripley. Highsmith also made a significant impact on LGBTQ literature with The Price of Salt, later republished as Carol.
