Pāṇini, a highly esteemed logician, Sanskrit philologist, and grammarian in ancient India, is known for his groundbreaking work, Aṣṭādhyāyī. This work, discovered and published by European scholars in the 19th century, established him as the “first descriptive linguist” and earned him the title of “the father of linguistics.” Pāṇini’s innovative grammatical approach has had a lasting influence on prominent linguists such as Ferdinand de Saussure and Leonard Bloomfield.
