Omar Mukhtar, a former teacher who later became a general, emerged as a significant leader of native resistance in Cyrenaica against Italian colonization. He played a crucial role as an Imam and a central figure of the Senussi movement, rallying and guiding the Libyan resistance during the First and Second Italo-Senussi Wars. Additionally, he courageously opposed French colonization in Chad and British occupation in Egypt. Despite numerous efforts to capture him, he was eventually taken into custody and executed by Italian forces in 1931 for his refusal to surrender. This act solidified his status as an enduring symbol of resistance in the Arab and Islamic worlds.
