Norman Whitfield was a highly influential American songwriter and producer renowned for his work with Berry Gordy’s Motown labels in the 1960s. He was credited with creating the Motown Sound and psychedelic soul, co-writing and producing numerous hits for Motown artists. Whitfield notably collaborated with the Temptations, producing eight albums for the group. In 1975, he established Whitfield Records, which achieved success with the hit song “Car Wash” by Rose Royce. His remarkable career led to his induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and posthumous recognition in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
