Nestor Ivanovych Makhno was a Ukrainian anarchist revolutionary who led the Revolutionary Insurgent Army of Ukraine during the Ukrainian War of Independence. He formed the Makhnovshchina, a movement advocating for anarchist communism. Makhno was a prominent local leader, known for redistributing estates and battling against Ukrainian nationalists and the White movement. He orchestrated effective uprisings, even collaborating with the Bolshevik Red Army before ultimately being betrayed by them and compelled to go into exile.
