Muḥammad Shah, the thirteenth Mughal emperor, reigned from 1719 to 1748. Initially placed on the throne by the Sayyid Brothers of Barha, he later eliminated them with the help of Nizam-ul-Mulk, Asaf Jah I. Known for his patronage of the arts and support for cultural and administrative advancements, Muḥammad Shah was a skilled musician with the pen-name “Sadrang.” However, his rule was overshadowed by the rapid decline of the Mughal Empire, notably marked by Nader Shah’s invasion of India and the sacking of Delhi in 1739.
