Michelle Smith de Bruin is an Irish lawyer and retired Olympic swimmer. She achieved great success at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, winning three gold medals and one bronze medal in various swimming events. Despite facing doping allegations and a subsequent ban from FINA for sample manipulation, her swimming achievements were not annulled. After retiring from competitive swimming, she pursued a career as a barrister under her married name, Michelle de Bruin. She continues to be recognized as Ireland’s most successful Olympian.
