Michael Anthony Monsoor, a United States Navy SEAL, displayed exceptional bravery and sacrifice during the Battle of Ramadi in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Enlisting in the Navy in 2001 and graduating from BUD/S class 250 in 2004, he was deployed to Iraq in 2006 as part of Delta Platoon, SEAL Team 3, to train Iraqi soldiers. Monsoor heroically shielded his comrades from a grenade blast, sacrificing his life in the process. He was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his selfless act of heroism.
