Menachem Begin was an Israeli politician who founded Likud and served as the sixth Prime Minister of Israel. Prior to his political career, he led the Zionist militant group Irgun in a revolt against British rule in Palestine. He later shifted to mainstream politics, leading the opposition against the Labor Party. Begin’s significant accomplishment was the peace treaty with Egypt in 1979, for which he was awarded the Nobel Prize for Peace. During his tenure, there were military operations in Lebanon and the West Bank.
