Maziar Bahari is a prominent Iranian-Canadian journalist, filmmaker, and human rights activist known for his work with Newsweek. He gained worldwide recognition after being detained by the Iranian government in 2009. Bahari authored the family memoir “Then They Came for Me,” a best seller that later inspired Jon Stewart’s film “Rosewater.” He also founded IranWire, the Journalism Is Not A Crime campaign, and the Paint the Change organization to promote freedom of expression and assist citizen journalism.
