Max Schmeling, a renowned German boxer, held the world heavyweight championship from 1930 to 1932. He gained fame for his bouts with Joe Louis in 1936 and 1938. Schmeling won the heavyweight title by disqualification in 1930 and despite a loss to Max Baer in 1933, he continued his boxing career. Serving in the German Air Force during World War II, Schmeling returned to boxing before retiring in 1948. He later worked for The Coca-Cola Company and developed a lasting friendship with Joe Louis.
