Manuel de Mier y Terán was a prominent military and political figure in Mexico during the War of Independence and the First Republic. He was a member of the Mexican congress and served as Minister of War. He conducted a crucial inspection of Texas for the government and was tasked with overseeing the area after a ban on American immigration.
