Manon Rhéaume made history as the first woman to play in an exhibition game in a major North American pro-sports league. She signed with the Tampa Bay Lightning NHL team in 1992, playing in preseason exhibition games over two years. Rhéaume then spent five years in professional minor leagues, playing for a total of seven teams and appearing in 24 games. She also represented the Canada women’s national ice hockey team, winning gold at the IIHF Women’s World Championship in 1992 and 1994, and silver at the 1998 Winter Olympics.
