Margaret Coldwell Hassan is an American politician and attorney who has served as the junior United States senator from New Hampshire since 2017. She previously held the position of the 81st governor of New Hampshire from 2013 to 2017. Hassan graduated from Brown University and earned a J.D. from Northeastern University School of Law. She has worked in various legal roles, including at the law firm Palmer & Dodge and as associate general counsel for Brigham and Women’s Hospital. Throughout her career, Hassan has been actively involved in Democratic Party politics, successfully running for the New Hampshire Senate and later being elected to the U.S. Senate after narrowly defeating the Republican incumbent.
