Known for setting national records, he holds the current South Korean men’s national marathon record at 2:07:20 and the half marathon record at 1:01:04. Throughout his career, he participated in 41 marathons, setting national records twice. Lee Bong-Ju retired after a successful performance at the Korean National Sports Festival in October 2009.
