Laverne Cox is an American actress and LGBT advocate who gained prominence for her role on the Netflix series Orange Is the New Black. She made history as the first transgender person to be nominated for a Primetime Emmy Award in an acting category and to win a Daytime Emmy Award. Cox has also appeared on reality TV shows, co-produced and co-hosted makeover television series, and received recognition for her advocacy work, including being honored by GLAAD and appearing on the covers of Time and Cosmopolitan magazines. Additionally, she is the first openly transgender person to have a wax figure at Madame Tussauds.
