Lang Ping, a highly accomplished former Chinese volleyball player and coach, has led both the Chinese women’s national volleyball team and the U.S. women’s national volleyball team. She was named the most valuable player at the 1984 Olympics and inducted into the International Volleyball Hall of Fame in 2002. Lang coached the U.S. women’s team to a silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympics and the Chinese women’s team to a gold medal at the 2016 Rio Olympics, becoming the first person in volleyball history to achieve Olympic gold as both a player and a coach. Her professional journey is also portrayed in the 2020 biographical film Leap, where actress Gong Li plays her character.
