Krishan Kant, an Indian politician, served as the Vice President of India from 1997 until his passing in 2002. Prior to his vice presidency, he held the position of governor of Andhra Pradesh. Kant had a distinguished career in both houses of the Indian Parliament, representing Chandigarh in the Lok Sabha and Haryana in the Rajya Sabha. He was affiliated with the Congress party before later joining the Janata Party and the Janata Dal. In 2002, Kant was a candidate in the presidential election but was succeeded by A. P. J. Abdul Kalam.
