Klaus Fuchs was a German theoretical physicist who was involved in atomic espionage during and after World War II. He shared important information about the Manhattan Project with the Soviet Union. Fuchs also played a significant role in theoretical calculations for nuclear weapons and early hydrogen bomb models at Los Alamos Laboratory. Following his conviction in 1950, he spent nine years in a UK prison before resuming his scientific career in East Germany. Fuchs held leadership roles in scientific institutions and was active in nuclear physics research until his retirement in 1979.
