Kenjiro Shinozuka was a prominent Japanese rally driver known for his successes with Mitsubishi Motors, including winning the Asia-Pacific Rally Championship in 1988 and back-to-back victories in the Rallye Côte d’Ivoire Bandama in 1991 and 1992, becoming the first Japanese driver to win a WRC event. He also made history by winning the Dakar Rally in 1997 driving a Mitsubishi Pajero. Despite facing a severe accident in 2003, Shinozuka continued to compete until his retirement announcement in 2006, but later returned for the 2007 Dakar.
