José Gómez Ortega, also known as Joselito, was a celebrated Spanish matador during the early twentieth century. Known as a child prodigy in bullfighting, he became the youngest matador de toros at just 17 years old. Joselito, together with his rival Juan Belmonte, is recognized for initiating bullfighting’s “Golden Age.” Despite their competitive relationship, Joselito and Belmonte formed a deep personal bond. Tragically, Joselito met his end when he was fatally gored by a bull named “Bailador” during a bullfight in Talavera de la Reina at the age of 25.
