Jonas Basanavičius was a prominent figure in the Lithuanian National Revival, known for his contributions to the country’s independence. Basanavičius founded the first Lithuanian-language newspaper, collected and published Lithuanian folklore, and was involved in local politics. Upon returning to Lithuania, he played a key role in cultural and scientific societies, contributing significantly to the country’s independence movement and ultimately signing the Act of Independence in 1918. Throughout his career, Basanavičius dedicated himself to preserving and advancing Lithuanian cultural heritage.
