He was the first illustrator or cartoonist to receive knighthood in 1893 for his artistic contributions. Tenniel’s significant achievements include serving as the principal political cartoonist for Punch magazine for more than five decades and creating iconic illustrations for Lewis Carroll’s “Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland” and “Through the Looking-Glass.” His intricate black-and-white drawings are widely regarded as the definitive portrayals of the characters from the Alice stories.
